Several hundred Americans in New York’s Financial Center Wall Street held mass demonstrations to protest against American power-for-money deal, parties and political struggle and social injustice.
It is reported that the demonstrations are organized by the non-profit magazine website Adbusters in the July of this year. It was labelled “the occupation of Wall Street”. It was intended to convey the discontent that the financial system favors the wealthy elite and, to denounce the culprit causing the financial crisis. The campaign Web site said: “We are 99% of the total population. For the only 1% greed and corruption of the total, we can no longer tolerate.”
In accordance with the original plan, the number of demonstrators will reach twenty thousand people. But on that day the number of people to protest is far less than this number. They also failed to get into the heart of Wall Street. Before they come, the police officer have fully completed obstructed all the boulevards close to the New York Stock Exchange and Federal Hall. The banners like “Eliminating corruption”, “Stop slicing the public welfare budget” and “greedy Wall Street, New Yorkers have had enough” were flying.
The U.S. is undergoing a fatigue period of economic recovery. But it also has to face the pains of deficit reduction. The country’s unemployment rate remains high. According to the latest employment data released by the U.S. Labor Department in August the employment in 30 states nationwide had a decline. The paid work in New York has the biggest decline.
New York City’s mayor Michael Bloomberg called on Obama to address the employment problem and to take effective proactive measures to deal with it. He also warned that if the U.S. government does not take effective measures to increase employment, similar riots in the streets of Egypt and Spain may occur in the United States.
