Life After Death-Does It Actually Exist?

Where we head to after death has often been a hot debating point for ages. I have had an interest in this topic for a while. This compelled me to try to look for some answers. Many stories abound, researchers come up with different explanations day in day out; where do we go after dying? Is there life after death?

The christian community believes that everyone will be judged and the final prize of living a pure life shall be never-ending life. The unrighteous shall pay with their lives; they will burn to death. The Muslim community also tells of a similar story. Most religions say that humans have souls that depart from them after death. However, some say that the soul continues to live in spirit from while others claim it is reborn in the form of another creature.

Reincarnation is the concept where somebody's soul after death comes back to live in a new human body or some other creature. I came across many such stories. Dr. Ian Stevenson is a psychiatry professor who has been investigating kids under the age of five who've surprisingly been talking about their earlier lives. His work has been documented in several great books. His story of one Indian girl particularly stunned me.

A 3-year-old girl, Swarnlata Misha was with his father and driver going home after a family trip. At about 100 miles before reaching their home, she unexpectedly told the driver to take a turn and go to her home and have some tea. To cut the long story short, she gradually told them of her previous name and how she died of a throat infection leaving behind 2 children. She described her previous home and even the nick names of her previous family members. This story was later proved true; the person she had described as her former self died in 1939 and all the descriptions of the home and family members were all true. How could a three-year-old tell in vivid clarity events that happened more than half a century ago?

Some scientists believe that there is life after death after coming across surprising stories of people that had gone though the near death experience (NDE). There are tons of stories about the NDE. I was interested particularly in the story of Dr. Bruce Grayson who told of an event he had never experienced in the 25 years of his cardiology career.

Al Sullivan, a 55-year-old truck driver was going through a triple by-pass surgery when he had a powerful NDE. Al said that during his NDE he met his dead mother-in-law who told him to go and tell their neighbour that their son who had lymphoma would get well soon. Astonishingly, the neighbor’s son got well after some time. One other surprise, Al said he saw the doctor flapping his hands during the procedure. This shocked Dr. Bruce; he was doing exactly what Al had described.

The controversies on whether there’s life after death won't end soon; they will always be there for as long as humans live. I know we shall all die, but I cannot stop asking myself, “Where will we go after meeting our deaths? “.
